The truck tailgate wars are heating up as manufacturers offer enhanced features in the traditional truck tailgate. The Ram 1500 now offers a multifunction tailgate with a 60/40 split that can be lowered traditionally or opened like cargo doors. These new tailgate options give truck shoppers another choice in the once boring tailgate designs of previous models.
Ford integrated a convenient tailgate step with a handle into the tailgate several years ago. Recently GMC announced the MultiPro Tailgate available on the GMC Sierra offering six different configurations for the tailgate. On February 6, 2019 Ram Trucks debuted the Multifunction Tailgate option for the Ram 1500.
The Ram 1500 Multifunction Tailgate offers a 60/40 split side hinged doors for an MSRP of $995. You can open one side or the other as well as swing both doors out to 88-degrees for convenient access to the cargo bed. The bed will also drop down traditionally to offer extended cargo loading or tailgating at the stadium. Buyers can also choose the optional $295 MSRP Retractable Center Step for even easier access to the bed.
The Ram Multifunction Tailgate has a 2,000 lb load rating and can be opened without removing the trailer and hitch. There are four configurations of use for the tailgate including open flat, open left door only, open right door only and both doors wide open. Coupled with the RamBox Cargo Management System the new Multifunction Tailgate offers tremendous versatility to the impressive Ram 1500.
The Ram Multifunction Tailgate should arrive at Lone Star Dodge in the 2nd Quarter of 2019. We are excited to be able to offer our truck customers this innovative feature to help truck owners get more value and use from their trucks.
